Benjamin J Horne is a lawyer with substantial experience within the agribusiness and consumer finance sectors.
One of his primary areas of practice is Water Law. He advises a number of industry stakeholders in respect to water asset acquisitions, disposal and policy. He is often called upon by professional advisers (particularly rural and regional accountants) to consult on disputes surrounding water assets and Farm Debt Mediation matters.
Ben has a rural background and grew up on his parent’s irrigated mixed farming property in the Southern Riverina of New South Wales. He has first hand experience of the issues faced by irrigators, supply companies and their associated service/support industries in regional Australia. He is also acutely aware of the impact legislative change can have on the communities in these areas.
Of particular interest to Ben is the commercial viability of agriculture in Australia. In this respect he has worked with industry participants on a number of projects and is a strong supporter of the farm debt mediation process.
As part of a broader litigation practice he also specialises in debt recovery, debt negotiation and mediation for consumers and larger players in the corporate context. Working closely with accountants, debt counsellors, collection consultants and other participants in the insolvency and restructuring industry. He has successfully negotiated numerous arrangements for clients on the debtor side without recourse to bankruptcy or high interest loans. On the creditor side he has developed and implemented a number of business specific strategies to improve recovery rates and debtor management.
